Welcome to HOPE Strathaven, the site for the united churches in the town working together on a number of projects. Here we bring you news of upcoming events - and an opportunity to look back at things that have taken place. HOPE was established nationally in 2008 as an umbrella organistaion for all churches in the nation to work together for their communities. In Strathaven the churches quickly took on the challenge of bringing a mix of community projects together that reflect faith and service : Cleaning up the Allison Green and the river, bringing the Scottish Bible Society's Bible world exhibition to the town, the 24 hour prayer week , the hugely exciting Easter Trail and the totally free summer concert, Free in the Park are just some of the projects we have worked on together.
While each of the churches in our town is very active in its own right - together we share the vision of bringing HOPE - real hope, the Hope that Jesus has given us, to our community. Please browse the site and get a flavour of why we believe that the faith we share in common, is one that is alive and very relevant today. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
COMING SOON FREE IN THE PARK IS BACK!
FREE IN THE PARK 2010 Sunday 13th June SUNDAY 13th June sees the return of FREE in the PARK - the free musical festival organised by the HOPE in conjunction with Strathaven Gala. In fact this will be the final event of Gala week and a fitting way to round off all the excitement. Last year there were 600 at the event - this year withteh following that headline act thebandwithnoname attracts - the crowd is expected to be even larger.thebandwithnoname are playing the previous day to a crowd in excess of 6000 at the Frenzy Festival at Ingleston. They are a widely acclaimed rock-hip hop act with a real punch and international following. Union State - a guitar driven rock band from Hamilton who count among their influences U2, the Stone Roses and Snow Patrol are the main support. But the event kicks off at 6pm with two local talents from the Academy, Static Act andPrelude. Other acts include BB Vox (makng her challenge on the charts recently), Joan Piacenti, and the talented local led band O.N.O. Things start at 6pm at the Bandstand and will round up with the headline act finishing about 10pm. Based on last year's experience the organisers are expecting quite a crowd especially since thebandwithnoname has a large following of its own. And what's great about this event is that it's absolutely FREE - brought to the community by the churches working through HOPE.
