FREE IN THE PARK - better than 'T'
Upwards of 600 people gathered in Strathaven Park in June 2009 - for HOPE Strathaven's first totally FREE open air concert. Organised in conjunction with Strathaven Gala this was a fantastic way to kick off Gala week for many. This year the project is bigger, better, more ambitious but STILL ABSOLUTELY FREE. The organising team have secured as the headline act The Band With No Name who despite their quirky name are one of the most famous bands in Christian music terms. The day before FREE IN THE PARK they are playing the Frenzy Festival in Edinburgh where the crowds are in excess of 6000. The next day, Strathaven hosts the band on their last ever Scottish gig a real coup for HOPE Strathaven. This will be an event that attracts many.
In 2010 we had a rerun with things kicking off with two bands from Strathaven Academy and in addition to the Band with No Name, Union State a Hamilton based group are playing. The whole event - a real festival of musical fun with a real soul in the good news of Jesus will run from 6pm to 9pm and include other artists as links on the journey. Static Act a talented group from Strathaven Academy, set things going at 6pm. They are followed by Prelude also from the Academy. Other acts include ONO a local based group, Joan Piacenti and BB Vox
